Barbara Ann Corcoran
Barbara Ann Corcoran is an American businesswoman. She was the founder of The Corcoran Group, a real estate brokerage in New York City, which she sold to NRT for $66 million in 2001, and shortly thereafter , the company was sold. One of the show's original "Shark" investors, Corcoran has appeared in every season of ABC's Shark Tank to date. In February 2020 Corcoran had signed 53 deals, the largest being a $350,000 investment which was able to cover 40 percent of Coverplay. Corcoran was born in Edgewater, New Jersey, the youngest of 10 children from a working class Irish Catholic family. Florence, her mother, was a household worker. Edwin W. Corcoran Jr. was her father. He was constantly switching jobs throughout Corcoran's career. Her family sometimes depended on free food delivery from a friendly local grocery store. Corcoran recalls her father as a man who often was a drinker and was rude to her mother and contempt, particularly after he'd consumed alcohol. Corcoran was a troubled pupil throughout her schooling. Later, she discovered she had dyslexia. Corcoran started high school at St. Cecilia High School Englewood after attending an Catholic primary school. After flunking several courses during her first year, Corcoran transferred to Leonia High School, where she was a D-student when she graduated.
