Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician from the United States. Born on the 20th of October 1964, she was the 49th Vice-President of the United States. Harris is the first vice president to be female and highest-ranking female official in U.S. History, as being the first African American and second Asian American vice president. As a part of the Democratic Party, she previously served as attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017 and as the state's attorney general from 2011 to 2017 and as a United States senator representing California from 2017 until 2021. Born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Her professional career started in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later promoted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected as the city's district attorney. She was appointed Attorney General of California in 2010, and then elected again in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the first African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. As a senator, she advocated for healthcare reform and federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. Her name is well-known due to her direct questioning of Trump government officials in Senate hearings.
